About CercaLabs: Healthcare RCM and Automation Consultants

About us

A small team that has been doing this since 2016

We apply automation to healthcare operations for laboratories, provider organizations and payers. Deliberately small: the people who scope your work are the people who build it, and they stay on it after it ships.

Why we exist

What We Believe

Technology should absorb the parts of healthcare work that never should have been human in the first place: re-keying, chasing, checking, waiting on hold. People can then do the parts that need judgment.

That belief shows up in how we scope. We are not interested in automating a broken process faster; we would rather redesign the process and automate what is left. And when the honest answer is that a problem is not an automation problem, we say so. The alternative is a project that fails slowly and expensively.

Leadership

Managing Director

Gabe Shiwota

Gabe leads CercaLabs. He has spent a decade building automation inside healthcare operations for laboratories, providers and payers, covering revenue cycle, member retention, compliance and clinical data. He designed the automation program that now runs roughly 150,000 transactions a month in production. He also built the de-identification pipeline behind the firm’s clinical AI work.

  • A decade in healthcare automation and operations engineering
  • Designed and runs a production automation program at roughly 150,000 transactions a month
  • Built a de-identification pipeline for production language-model workloads
  • HIPAA-aligned development lifecycle, document understanding, and language-model implementation

Lead Consultant

Jeffrey Afana

Jeffrey works with operations and technology leaders to scope automation work that survives contact with real payors, real systems and real staff. He leads discovery engagements and stays on delivery, so the person who scoped the work is the person accountable for it.

  • Healthcare operations and delivery leadership across laboratory, provider and payer organizations
  • Leads discovery and process assessment engagements
  • Compliance-facing and payor-facing workflow design

This is the whole leadership team. There is no bench of people you meet once and never see again.

What being small buys you

Why That Matters To You

No handoff after the sale

The person who scoped it builds it. Nothing is lost between a discovery deck and a delivery team who were not in the room.

We turn down work

A firm this size cannot afford a failed engagement, which makes us honest about what automation will not fix.

Engagements outlast projects

Our longest client relationship is eight years old and still in production. That is the standard we hold new work to.
